The same thing can be achieved in Windows command prompt with an additional feature. If you keep hitting the “TAB” key, it will give you let you browse through all the directory and file names in the directory that you are in.

In Windows XP, the auto-complete option is disabled. You can enable this in 2 ways.

To use the Power Toys -> Tweak UI application provided for free by Microsoft. Tweak UI is a must have application which not only lets you enable Auto-complete but also various other tweaks to your Windows machine which otherwise would have to modified in the Windows Registry. You can

the Tweak UI application from Microsoft’s website. After installing the application, open Tweak UI.

As shown in the picture above, select the “Command Prompt” option. There are two options for you to choose. You can enable auto-completion of both File and Directory names. You can either choose what keys you want to use for the auto-completion.  I would recommend using a “TAB” key because you will feel native even when you use Linux command line.

The other way to enable auto-complete is to modify the Windows Registry. You can find a Knowledge base article in the Microsoft webiste .

The best key logger application on a windows machine would be keystroke spy. This is a small windows application which will not be viewable in the windows task manager.

You can download this software from the link below.

After you build your new Windows PC, you may have tried to access that new PC from another computer in your home network. Even though everything seems to be correct you might not even be able to ping the PC.

You can run the “ipconfig” command to verify if the machine got an IP address.

    C:>ipconfig

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:          Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

    IP Address. . .  . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2

    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

    Default Gateway. . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Try doing a ping to any other computer in the network. If you are able to ping from your machine to another machine but not vice-versa, then it may be because of the Firewall. By default on a newly installed machine, Windows turns on the Firewall. This may be a reason why you might not be able to access the PC.

Open the Windows firewall window by doing the following:

    Start –> Run –> firewall.cpl

Try turning off the firewall. You can re-enable the firewall if you need later. I recommend you to turn off the firewall until you figure out what the problem is.

Now try doing a “PING” to the PC from any other machine. You should now be able to access the PC.

Now you can either leave the firewall open on your PC if you are on a home network because you will already be behind a router which keeps you safe from the outside world. If you still want to you can turn on the firewall with adding some exceptions to this.

If the wired network is connected to your internal network which doesn’t have internet connectivity, then you are stuck. This is because Windows OS sets the default gateway to the wired network. Below is the command to change the default gateway to wireless networks.

To add default route with the default gateway address of 10.2.3.1, use the below command:

    C:>ROUTE ADD 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 10.2.3.1

To make any route persistent after the reboots, you can add ‘-P’ argument to the route command.

Below are some more commands for your reference:

    To print the Route information

    C:>ROUTE PRINT

To add a route with 10.5.1.* traffic going to 10.2.3.1 gateway

    C:>ROUTE ADD 10.5.1.0 MASK 255.0.0.0 10.2.3.1

To change the existing route of 10.5.1.* traffic to go to 10.5.1.1 gateway

    C:>ROUTE CHANGE 10.5.1.0 MASK 255.0.0.0 10.5.1.1
